
President Tsai personally hosted the “2020 Memorial Ceremony for Republic of China Ancestors and Martyrs” which took place on the Youth’s Day (29th of March) at the Taipei Yuanshan National Revolutionary Martyrs’ Shrine. She was accompanied by various officials from the Central Government, including Premier Su Tseng-Chang of the Executive Yuan, President You Si-Kun of the Legislative Yuan, President Hsu Tzong-Li of the Judicial Yuan, President Wu Jin-Lin of the Examination Yuan, Vice President Sun Ta-Chuan of the Control Yuan as well as descendants of the deceased.
When the ceremony began, the drum was sounded and the national anthem started playing after the officiant, accompanying officiant and other staffs were in position. This was followed by President Tsai presenting the tablets of the martyrs and the ancestors with flowers. After giving the memorial oration, the President led everyone to bow thrice to show respect for the deceased. After the solemn ceremony, the President saluted the descendants of the deceased.
Afterward, the President attended the opening ceremony of the “0102” memorial region at the Ministry of National Defense. She observed a moment of silence in front of the martyr memorial wall, laid flowers, offered condolences and souvenirs to the families in the memory of 8 deceased martyrs, including General Shen, Yi-Ming, the late Chief of the General Staff. She expressed her respect for their selfless contribution to society and the country and believes that their acts will be remembered forever. She also hoped that everyone in the Armed Forces will inherit the spirit of the deceased and work hard to create an even better Armed Forces in the future.
