Lt. Gen. Liu Honors Service with Commemorative Medal

Lieutenant General Liu, Commander of the Armed Forces Reserve Command, visited veteran Lou You-shui yesterday to present the Ministry of National Defense’s “80th Anniversary of WWII and the War of Resistance Victory Commemorative Medal.” He expressed deep respect and heartfelt appreciation for Lou’s bravery during the nation’s most difficult times, highlighting the military’s enduring gratitude and recognition for veterans of the War of Resistance.
Lou’s 30 Years in Medicine: A Career Built on Saving Lives
To honor the heroes of the War of Resistance, the Ministry of National Defense is awarding commemorative medals to veterans for their exceptional service.Dr. Lou You-shui served as a military doctor on the battlefield, treating the wounded with courage and compassion. After retiring as a captain following 15 years of service, he spent over 30 years providing medical care to local communities, often free of charge. Guided by the belief that “saving lives comes first,” he exemplifies the loyalty of a soldier and the heart of a healer—an inspiration to future generations.
Accompanied by Political Warfare Director Maj. Gen. Hu and Central District Commander Maj. Gen. Tao, Lt. Gen. Liu visited Dr. Lou’s home to personally present the commemorative medal. He conveyed the sincere respect of Minister Koo Li-hsiung and the entire armed forces, while also checking on Dr. Lou’s health and well-being. Dr. Lou guided the delegation through a display of historic photos and memorabilia, including the preserved Japanese surrender document and images from the victory of the War of Resistance—powerful reminders of a triumph that safeguarded national dignity 80 years ago. Lt. Gen. Liu listened closely as Dr. Lou recounted his stories, expressing deep admiration for his resilience. The visit was warm, heartfelt, and deeply moving.
Lt. Gen. Liu said the Reserve Command will continue outreach and tribute activities for veterans to help more people understand their sacrifices and contributions. He emphasized that the dedication of the War of Resistance generation laid the foundation for today’s freedom and democracy, and encouraged service members to uphold their spirit and keep working to protect the nation.
